The publishing house “Dukagjini”
Nothing can replace the pleasure of accompanying the book and literature. It is a special adventure, journey into the real and unreal world, creating of an widened culture. Aware of the importance and significance of the publications, in particular the book, there was founded the Publishing House “Dukagjini”.
Founded on the 14th of March in 1994, in difficult times for books and culture in these parts, with the initiative of a group of intellectuals and authors with an unreserved support of the NGBL of that time, Publishing House “Dukagjini” for a short time was promoted to one of the largest publishing houses, not only in Kosovo and among albanians, but also beyond. Her name is associated with the idea of a courageous publishing enterprise, which was introduced as well as in presentations, book fairs and other events of the book in Prishtina, Tirana, Skopje, Tetovo, Frankfurt, Geneva, Paris, etc.
To support its activities it was opened the International Library in Prishtina, the first of its kind in post-war Kosovo. Very soon this bookstore became the place of meeting of those who enjoy the world of writing, reading, absorbing new knowledge, the culture of reading, in Albanian or in other languages.
Starting with the series “Fryma” (humanity knowledge) and “Rozafa” (literature) and later with “Especial Publications” and “Dukagjini Balkan Books” (in foreign languages), and a few years after the war, “Dukagjini” gathered the most famous authors of textbooks, to become today the publishing leader of primary and secondary education reform.
“Dukagjini” inaugurated the first “web page” (web site), among the Albanian publishers. It has received many important recognition awards, its authors were published in many other languages, and in the columns of its publications, notably professionally prepared and with modern design, except in Albanian language it also published books in English, German and French .
Known for its strict adherence to copyright, “Dukagjini” has cooperated with domestic and external publishers, with international distributors, with organizations and foundations of civil society and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo, with licenses of which has brought all the textbook program.
There are over 200 titles published in four mentioned columns and about 160 textbooks from Class I up to ninth class, in Albanian language, but also in minority languages, Turkish, Bosnian, and a series of manuals, handbooks for teaching in Diaspora etc.
